Chevron axle springs are rubber-metal suspension elements used to isolate vibration and transmit forces in railway vehicles, including trains, trams and metro systems. Their layered construction combines rubber with steel plates to provide controlled stiffness in the vertical, lateral and longitudinal directions.
The spring characteristics can be tailored through the angle and geometry of the steel sections, the number of intermediate steel plates, the installation arrangement and the rubber compound hardness. This allows the suspension response to be adapted to vehicle loads, ride comfort and stability requirements.
